This is part 1 of this serie. You can find the full series here.

1. Fundament
Before any artwork or development can be done we need to have an idea what game we are going to create. This sounds very obvious, but it is the fundament of every game.
This said, I want to show you that any idea can be used. It does not need to be original.

2. Origin of the idea
In 1981 (yes, I am that old) I was given a small present for my birthday: a Tandy Pocket Repeat. This is a Simon clone. The gameplay was so simple and so addictive! A short explanation: a sequence of lights and sounds is shown by the toy. This sequence has to be repeated by the player. If done well, the machine adds one light and tone to the end of the sequence which becomes more difficult this way. More information about this kind of game can be found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_(game)
On http://www.handheldmuseum.com/ I found the picture of the original toy shown here.

3. Create using Flash
This is the game I want to recreate in Flash. I searched the web and found some simple flash games, but none of them had the addictive gameplay of the small toy. I want to do better and show you how this can be accomplished.

4. Conclusion
Any idea can be used as your game idea. You do not have to be the magic genius game guru to come up with a solid game idea. Just pick something from your past and try to think of it as a new game. That will do.
Some other options: I have bought a book which sums up about 900 internet games. This is a dutch book, so not much of use for the most of you. Of course, the web is another great source.

5. What's next
The next post will be about the artwork needed for the game using Photoshop. If you need to get up to speed before that, perhaps this book/digital classroom is something for you: Photoshop CS4 Digital Classroom

1. Introduction
This will be my first post on this blog. It may be clear I will post Flash Game Development articles here. To make things even more clear: I am not pretending to know it all. I just want to do something about the lack of in-depth information in Flash game development. I hope you all will have fun reading my posts.
The next post will be this week. It is about the first game I want to show you: Repeat.

2. What will I write about the next few weeks
Before we dive into the coding part, I want to show you that preparation is worth the effort. So I will take the following steps:
- Game Idea
- Game Design and Art
- Game Coding
- Game Interface Design

3. What's next
For the game I have in mind, these steps will do.
As shown here, the next post will be about the Game Idea or where do you find a good idea for your next game?
